Karaoke Night: Coming Up Soon!
If you’ve been watching us for a little while, you probably already know about our Girl’s Night Out events. I don’t mean to toot our own horn or anything, but they’re kind of a big deal. Actually, no other family law firm is doing anything like this; well, to be fair to them, it’d be hard to do, because no one else in Virginia exclusively represents women. (Can you imagine how weird it’d be if a husband and wife accidentally showed up to the same event?)
Representing women only is really a unique niche, and it’s something that allows us to do things that other law firms can’t do. Even though they probably wouldn’t anyway, representing men and women makes some things impossible that we’ve come to take for granted.
Girl’s Night Out is one of the programs that we’re the most proud of, because, the way we see it, it really fills a need. Our former managing partner, the late Kristen Hofheimer, started the events after hearing over and over and over again how difficult it is to meet friends during the divorce. We’ve heard time and time again how divorce can be isolating, and how sometimes, along with dividing assets, you divide your former mutual friends. For many of us, too, our lives – marriages, children, jobs – have taken us away from our friends anyway, so there’s just not that infrastructure in place to fall back on when times get especially rough. Meeting new friends is hard, not to mention expensive (especially when most places charge $10+ for a single drink!), but also critical.
We depend on our girlfriends, especially in tough times. Sure, having a therapist is great, and having an excellent divorce attorney is critical, but neither of those people can take the place of a girlfriend – nor should they!
Anyway, Girl’s Night Out was created years ago out of a desire to make sure that our clients have what they need. We’ve already done the legal bit; we’re pretty well recognized in our area for our expertise. But Girl’s Night Out covers a different set of needs.
Girl’s Night Out is an event series, sponsored by the firm. We pick a series of local hot spots, pay for food and drinks, and all you have to do is show up. Everything else is taken care of! Though you’re certainly welcome to bring a friend along, we usually have 40-60 other local area women there in attendance. Though probably most of them are going through a divorce or custody case (hey, that’s what we do), it’s not a requirement to attend.
Though our events are always popular, some are more so than others. Well, that’s just life! But our next event, the one coming up in October, is always one of our more popular events. I hope you’ll make plans to attend, especially if this is your first event. I know it can be intimidating to walk into a room of people you don’t know, but, I promise you – everyone is super friendly and welcoming. If you’re just really not comfortable, you can bring a friend along with you, too. We don’t mind, and our general philosophy is the more the merrier!
If you’re interested, though, we’d love to have you! Our next event will be Wednesday, October 8th from 6-8pm at Amplitude Karaoke in Virginia Beach.
We’ve had events at Amplitude now for…well, I’m not entirely sure, but at least 4 years! Though I personally was a little hesitant about karaoke at first, it’s a total blast. Whether you want to get up and sing in front of the group or not, there’s no pressure, and there are a LOT of songs where the whole group sings together!
It’s such a sense of community, and such a source of strength – it’s such a wonderful event series, but this event in particular is really something special. Every year, we’re blown away by the awesomeness of the women we’ve been able to surround ourselves with.
Definitely make a point to be there! For more information or to register to attend, visit our website or give our office a call at 757-425-5200 if you have questions. We look forward to talking to you, and hope to see you there!
