What Not to Do During Your Virginia Divorce

If you are new to divorce, you may not know how to act and may think that ignorance is bliss. However, your actions can affect your Virginia divorce negatively. Therefore, it is wise to know what not to do during your divorce so that your case runs smoothly.

First, stay off of social media, such as Facebook and Twitter. Anything you post online is for the public to see. Your spouse can use this information against you to claim full custody of the children or ask for more alimony. So be cautious of posting anything negative, such as photos of you drinking or out with a new significant other.

You also want to be extra cautious with money
. Don’t buy big-ticket purchases because you need all the money you can save up for your new life after the divorce. You may need that money to find a new place to live and support your children. The last thing you want to do is rack up even more debt.

Don’t start a new relationship right away
. Your focus is on finalizing the divorce, not becoming intimate with someone else. Close friendships with people of the same sex are preferred for the time being.
