From October onward, I dream about the summer. And then, inevitably, it totally sneaks up on me! Every. Single. Year. How does that even happen?
I’m a Hampton Roads girl, born and bred, and I love everything about the heat and humidity. In fact, I don’t think it can get too hot for me. I love the sunshine and the beach and, of course, being able to enjoy a fruity beverage outside. It seems like our window to schedule our Girl’s Night Out events outside is awfully narrow – in April, it can be too cold, and by September, well, the same problem can arise. So, really, I’m relegated to the generic summer months – May, June, July, and August.
As lucky as we are to be surrounded by so much water, it can take a little bit of time to warm up – and, as most of us beach people know, the breeze off of the not-yet warm water can be pretty chilly, even on the warmest days.
Our last Girl’s Night Out was in April, so we knew we wanted to have our June event somewhere outside. It’s still a ways away, so we’re dreaming about warmer temps (and sometimes even flirting with some really nice ones lately), but we’re also dealing with extra rain, and colder mornings and late evenings. It’s one of those “do I really need the AC on in the house?” kind of times.
But the summer is coming. It’s coming so soon, too! It’s coming soon enough that our next Girl’s Night Out event is going to be on June 27th, at Wednesday, at my favorite venue of all our Girl’s Night Out venues, the Ocean View Fishing Pier! If you haven’t been there, you really need to go. (And, if you have, tell everyone you know – we’re going back again!) It’s a great spot. We reserve a big area on the top deck, with totally panoramic views – you can see the beach at Ocean View, and across the water to the HRBT. It’s gorgeous, especially at sunset, and the ambiance is totally relaxed beach chill. They have cool rocking picnic tables, giant Adirondack chairs, and swings at the top deck bar. The food is great, and the drinks are tropical – it’s totally like a mini vacation in the middle of the week.
Love an Orange Crush? You should definitely make plans to attend. Just want to catch some summery ocean breezes? You’ll love this event!
We hope to see you there; generally, the OVFP party is one of our biggest Girl’s Night Out events of the year, so you definitely won’t want to miss it. Bring out those sundresses and sandals, and make it a point to be there. The location is great too – just on the other side of the HRBT for the Peninsula people, and not all the way to the HRBT for those of you travelling from the south side.
