Divorce is difficult. Even though we all know someone who has been divorced, that doesn’t mean that it’s easy to have an open line of communication to discuss all the deep rooted fears that are plaguing you throughout the process. Even if you are talking to someone, whether a friend or a professional, it’s difficult.
At some point, we all need a little extra help, and, really, there’s only so much support that friends and family members can provide—even if they have been there before. They can’t listen to your internal monologue 24/7; there has to be some give and take in any friendship, and your friend will want to spend some time discussing her life and her problems, too.
But, to deal effectively with the transition, you’re going to have to get all those feelings out. Ideally, you’d talk to other similarly situated women, but it’s hard to just happen upon a group of divorcing women. Or, at least, it was…until now.
We keep hearing, over and over, about the need for a local divorce support group. There have been different groups at different times, but, for one reason or another, no group seems to last all that long. As soon as we start recommending a particular group to our clients and friends, we find out that it no longer exists—the lady running it moved or retired or whatever the case may be. We grew a little frustrated, too, because we understand how important it is to have someone else who can talk to you through the transition.
And not just anybody, either! Divorce is difficult enough; you don’t want to get stuck in a group of whiny, miserable women. You want something positive, helpful, and uplifting! You want the transition to be easier—for you, and for your children—not harder. Though you’re probably having some negative feelings, you don’t want to give in to them entirely. You want to find ways of coping healthfully that will allow you to weather the changes life has thrown your way.
Anyway, to make a long story short, we’ve decided to offer a support group for clients of Hofheimer Family Law Firm! We’re really excited about it, because we’ve never done anything like this before—but we’re really eager to get it up off the ground, and we’re sure that it’s going to be hugely successful.
Quarterly, on the fourth Saturday of January, April, July, and October, we’ll be offering a support group called “Divorce Life Hacks and Support”. Each support group will be led by Kristen Hofheimer, our managing partner and attorney extraordinaire (okay, that’s not her ACTUAL title, it’s just something I made up; can I help if it’s true, though?). The sessions will begin at 3pm at our Virginia Beach office, and will cover some incredibly important topics:
• Staying positive through divorce,
• Dealing with divorce-related stress,
• Building your support system, and
• Helping your kids through the divorce process.
The sessions are designed to be positive and uplifting; a real opportunity for our clients to have a chance to open up about what they’re experiencing and talk to other women in the same situation. Hofheimer Family Law clients who wish to attend can pre register to attend by giving our office a call at (757) 425-5200.
If you’re looking for a different kind of support group (a more social kind), why not check out our Girl’s Night Out events? You don’t have to be a Hofheimer Family Law client to attend, either. They’re purely social, and we offer them once every 6 weeks or so at different happy hour spots around the Hampton Roads area. For more information, or to register to attend, click here.
Divorce is hard, but you don’t have to go through it all alone, either. By enlisting the support of some people who have been there before (or who, like us, have helped thousands of women go through the process), you’ll make sure you get through this in the best, most productive way possible.
