On Wednesday, we met a group of women at Sonoma Wine Bar and Bistro in Virginia Beach’s chic Town Center area for a couple mid-week hours of fun. We’ve been trying to plan events like this every four to six weeks or so in an effort to help our current and former clients get back out there again. We encourage women to come, and bring friends, if they’d like, to meet and hang out with other local women, because we know what it’s like when you’re about to go through, are currently going through, or have just recently gone through a divorce.
It’s an isolating experience for a lot of women. Even though we all know that the divorce rates these days are high, it usually seems like you’re the only person you know who is going through it at the time. Even if your sister has been there before or your best friend’s marriage seems a little rocky, you’re probably feeling like you’re the one who is dealing with the pain, the uncertainty, and the isolation of the divorce right this minute. You’re the one who needs help, and you can tell that not everyone is all that willing to listen to you talk about everything in minute detail. Even if they were, it’s hard to talk about, especially to someone who doesn’t really know what you’re going through. It’s easy for someone to say they understand but, unless they’ve been there, they really can’t understand.
Talking to women who have experienced what you’re going through, or who are currently experiencing it, can do wonders for your self esteem, give you a much needed social outlet, and encourage you to network with women from a number of different professional backgrounds.
That’s why we created Girl’s Night Out. We saw a real need—for a place for divorced or divorcing women to mix and mingle and get a much needed break from their every day lives. We saw women with so much heart and potential and poise that we knew we just needed to get them all together and let magic happen. Because it does! It really does! Every single time we get together, something extraordinary happens. A connection is made, a job interview is secured, or a little peace of mind is restored. Together, we share our triumphs and build each other up so that we’re all able to reach our fullest potential. Sometimes life drags you down, but one of the most inspiring things is that we all find a way to get back up again.
It may sound cliché, but laughter really is the best medicine. Whenever we hold these events, the room gets so loud that it’s difficult to hear each other. But, wall to wall, I see smiling, happy, engaged women.
Wednesday’s event was no exception. We worked with a fabulous venue, like always, and arranged for some awesome food and drinks to be served. The turnout was great! We’ve already started planning our next Girl’s Night Out event, which is going to be on Tuesday, August 5th from 6-8 pm at the Norfolk Tap Room on Granby Street in Norfolk’s hip, urban downtown area. It’s sure to be a lot of fun, just like our other events!
For more information about this or any of our other upcoming events, please visit our site by clicking here. You’ll see all the up-to-date information about our next event, including where to register. You don’t have to register to come, but it helps us know how much food to buy ahead of time (and makes it so that we don’t have to wait while the kitchen is making more). You’re also more than welcome to bring a female friend along, too.
If you’ve been to one of our events before, you should also be sure to check out our Facebook group! It’s where we keep in touch with each other in between events, and where we post the pictures that were taken the night of the event. It’s a closed group, so you have to request admission to join (because we don’t want just anyone to be able to get in and see what we’re up to), and you have to have already attended a GNO event before you’ll be approved.
If you haven’t checked out our Girl’s Night Out events, be sure to do it! You definitely won’t regret it. Hope to see you there!
