It’s January, which means that Custody Bootcamp for Moms is coming up again soon! We still have space for the January 28th seminar, so, if you’ve got a court date coming up or just want to check in on your attorney, now is definitely the time to get registered to attend!
Custody Bootcamp for Moms is a really amazing seminar; really, there’s nothing else like it for moms or dads or, really, anyone anywhere else in the country. If you’ve got a custody case, or are worried that you might, you’re definitely going to want to attend and get the information that you’ll need to know to be prepared to walk into the courtroom with your head held high.
There’s no question that custody cases are scary. There’s so much that is out of your control, and, where your kids are concerned, that just feels unacceptable. You’re used to being able to call the shots, to make choices, and to decide what’s best for your child. You’re a good mother, and you’ve worked hard to make sure that all your choices have been in the best interests of your child.
When it comes to custody, though, issues come up. If you and your child’s father weren’t able to make it work romantically, you’re probably also going to find that issues come up over how you plan to raise your children after your break up (and, even if things do work out romantically, that doesn’t always mean that couples agree about how to raise their kids!).
You’re not alone. And, whether you decide to hire an attorney or go at it alone doesn’t mean you have to walk into the courtroom unarmed and unsuspecting. You should be prepared and feel comfortable; you should know what to expect, and you should have prepared ahead of time. Custody cases are difficult (legally and emotionally), but there’s no reason that, whether you choose to or are forced to out of financial necessity, you can’t do it on your own. If you’re planning to represent yourself, though, you should definitely go to Custody Bootcamp first!
At Custody Bootcamp, you’ll learn all about custody cases in Virginia, including:
• When to sit and stand, and how to address the judge;
• The typical structure of a custody case, and what to expect and when;
• The ten best interests of the child factors (that the judge MUST listen to, and you MUST base your argument around);
• When (and how) to make objections;
• How to get your evidence in (and keep his bad evidence out);
• The ins and outs of working with custody evaluators and guardians ad litem;
• How to make killer opening and closing arguments;
• How to question and cross examine witnesses (and how to survive cross examination yourself); and
• Tons more.
Our Custody Bootcamp for Moms seminars are taught by Kristen Hofheimer and Caitlin Walters, two of our most devoted custody attorneys. They’ll share practical and technical expertise with you from their years of practicing in courts in the Commonwealth.
They’ve practiced in all the local courts – Virginia Beach, Norfolk, Chesapeake, Portsmouth, Suffolk, the Eastern Shore, Newport News, York County – and, of course, have even traveled to some of the more out of the way jurisdictions, and can even provide insight to cases in the western or northern parts of the state.
There’s a lot to know when it comes to custody, so you should make sure you take the time you need to prepare ahead of time. The judge won’t grant you a continuance just because you didn’t do your homework! Come armed with your questions, but just come—Kristen and Caitlin will stay until the last woman’s last question is answered, so this is a really amazing opportunity.
Even better? The cost to attend Custody Bootcamp for Moms is less than the cost of one hour with a moderately priced local attorney, and certainly far, far less than what you’d need to retain an attorney to represent you in your custody case. Should you decide you’d like to hire Kristen or Caitlin, that’s cool, too—they can help set you up with an initial appointment to go over your case in detail, and, at any rate, you’ll already know them and feel comfortable with the knowledge and experience they’ll bring to your case.
Want to get a head start before the seminar? Smart girl. Request a copy of our custody book, “The Woman’s Custody Survival Guide” by clicking here. It’s a great resource for women preparing to face their own custody cases; in fact, it’ll provide you with the perfect background for learning before the seminar. If you’re the kind of learner who loves to read (like me!), you’ll love this book. Even if you’d prefer not to read, you should request it; you can flip through and use it to answer your questions before and after the seminar. You don’t have to read it cover to cover for it to be helpful (though, of course, you’ll get more out of it if you do).
