As you know, we’re proud to support successful, empowered, motivational women. Its part of the reason we love our Girl’s Night Out event series so much, and it’s a big part of why we’ve built our firm up to support women clients only. We’re big believers here in what women can do, and we believe that a big part of our job is helping our clients get the fresh new starts they need to go on succeeding in their post-divorce lives.
In this day and age, we really can do it all, and we applaud the women around us who do all the time. At our Girl’s Night Out events, we’ve met women who have done all sorts of amazing things, and we love to hear about (and talk about!) all the inspirational stories we’ve heard. We like to think that we’re just a little part of all that success.
Part of being successful is being a part of a network of women who cheer you on and build you up. We provide that atmosphere to the women who come to our office to meet with us in person, attend our seminars, purchase our products, and attend our special events.
We also love to take a minute whenever we can to applaud the successes of specific women. We let you know when Shannon Lemm, our Newport News attorney, was a featured speaker at the “Secrets” conference on child sexual abuse in Williamsburg. When I spoke at the “Sistas in Step” conference at Norfolk State University, I got so much support from our network! We shared, too, when Kristen Hofheimer, already a woman of many talents, was made a certified MixxedFit instructor, and when she speaks at the Still Hope Foundation (an organization dedicated to empowering single moms). Not only that, but our bookkeeper, Lucy McKay, who you have probably met at one of our Girl’s Night Out events, was made Ms. June in the Beyond Boobs organizations 2015 calendar! We’re planning another big celebration, too, when Sheera Herrell takes over as president of the Collaborative Divorce Solutions of Tidewater group in 2016!
We recently had Jamie Broadnax join our team as our “Client Experience Creator.” We’re hoping that Jamie will help us celebrate the successes of all the fantastic women in our network, and bring an even more client-focused emphasis to the work that we do. It’s Jamie’s job to help build up our clients, and make the process as uplifting as possible.
Before Jamie had a chance to do much client experience creating, though, she received an honor herself, and we knew we had to let you know about it! You may not have had an opportunity to meet Jamie in person yet, but she’s pretty cool, and we feel lucky to have her as a member of our team. She founded a blog, Black Girl Nerds, which focuses on supporting women of color and encouraging them to be true to themselves. It has developed quite a following since 2012, when it was started and, as a result of her work in the blogosphere, she was recently nominated for the Women’s Media Center Award. Here’s a brief statement from the Women’s Media Center itself that describes its purpose:
the WMC works with the media to ensure that women’s stories are told and women’s voices are heard. We do this in the following ways: media advocacy campaigns, media monitoring for sexism, creating original content, training women and girls to participate in media, and promoting media experienced women experts. We are directly engaged with the media at all levels to ensure that a diverse group of women is present in newsrooms, on air, in print and online, in film, entertainment, and theater, as sources and subjects.
We’re proud of Jamie for her nomination! She hasn’t won the award yet, though, so, if you have a spare moment, visit this link, and vote for her!
It’s really exciting to see that so many of our own are out in the community and accomplishing such great things! It really is a testament to the power of women when we’re working together, supporting each other, and constantly providing encouragement for the awesome and unique work that each of us are doing, both professionally and in our own private lives.
Women are awesome, and I’m so proud to be a part of an organization that provides so much to local area women. If you haven’t checked out any of our Girl’s Night Out events, now is a great time! Our next event will be held on Tuesday, November 4th at the Lucky Oyster on General Booth Boulevard in Virginia Beach from 6-8pm. As always, we provide free drinks and appetizers to our attendees, so it doesn’t cost you anything. It’s a great opportunity to meet new people, network, and take a little time off from real life. We’ve seen our attendees get new jobs, form new friendships, and promote the causes that are near and dear to their hearts. In short, our attendees typically go on to do great things, and we like to think we’re a small part of that. If you’d like to attend, we’ve love to have you! Congratulations to Jamie! If you see her at one of our events in the near future or happen to catch her on the phone, be sure to give her your best wishes (and, maybe even more importantly, your vote). Jamie is a rising star, and we’re excited to get to watch her take off!
