Veteran’s Day

Posted on Oct 24, 2018 by Katie Carter

In case you weren’t already aware, Veteran’s Day is coming up!  And this year, like the last couple years, we’re running a special to thank female military service members and military wives for their service to our country.

If you’re currently serving in the military, or your spouse is currently serving, and you’re considering a divorce or separation, we can definitely help.  It’s a pretty scary experience, and there are always a lot of unknowns.  You’ve probably got a lot of questions, and some of those questions are probably keeping you lying awake at night.  It’s only natural to worry about your choices, and especially about the impact of those choices on your children and your future.

Financially, divorce is a big deal!  Emotionally, it’s also pretty difficult.  And when you stop to consider the potential impact on your children, reality can seem a little overwhelming.

The key to divorce or separation, or really anything that seems initially overwhelming at first, is to arm yourself with information.  The more information you have, the better choices you can make –and the more energy you can devote to actually solving problems, rather than just worrying about the unknowns.  The more you know about your Virginia divorce rights, the better off you’ll be.  The sooner you start getting your questions answered and making a plan, the better off you’ll be.

Whether you decide to divorce, separate, or stay together, you should make those decisions with as much information at your disposal as possible.  Am I right?  At the end of the day, you should feel you made the absolute best decision possible for you and your family, and that’s really only something you can do when you’re aware of the facts.

So, anyway, as a special thank you to you for your service and sacrifice, we wanted to offer a couple specials to you this Veteran’s Day.  We wanted to make it as easy and painless as possible for you to get the up to date, Virginia specific information you’ll need to make the types of decisions you need to make, and that’s why we structured this the way we did.

This year, for Veteran’s Day, we’re offering:

1. A free download of our military divorce book.

Yes, free!  Our most popular title for military spouses or active duty military service women, our military divorce book provides the information you need to know about military divorce.  (It really is different from civilian divorce!)  And, best of all, you know it’s up to date, Virginia specific, and full of the tips and tricks you need that are unique to your military family.

You can’t just ask your questions to a JAG attorney, you know.   And, even if they do give you information (which they shouldn’t, because they can’t practice in the Virginia courts), you can bet they’re not on your side – they’re looking out for the military service member, not the spouse!  Since they’re often  not even licensed in Virginia (and, even if they are, they aren’t practicing in Virginia, they’re practicing military law!), even if they do give you information, you can’t be 100% sure you can trust it.Gather information now, and make sure it’s the right information.  Our book is a great way to get started.

Have kids?  You can also request a free copy of our custody book.  Because those are questions you’ll want answered, too!

2. Come to one of our Virginia divorce seminars for women.

We’ve been offering these seminars for over thirty years now (well, not me, personally, obviously!) and we’ve helped thousands and thousands of Virginia women get the divorce facts they need.  The beginning of the process is an important time strategically, and you’ll definitely find that the choices you make now will impact the results you get and the overall cost of your divorce.  Choose wisely.

…Wait, how can you choose wisely if you don’t know how the choices you’re making can impact you later on down the road?  Oh, right – attend the seminar!  Each one is taught by one of our licensed and experienced Virginia divorce and custody lawyers, so you can ask your questions live and start to piece together a plan for moving your case (and your life) forward in a positive way that will help you get the best divorce possible. To register to attend, visit our site and use the promo code “VeteransDay” for any of our November seminars.

3. Get a consultation – at a seriously reduced price.

We almost never reduce our consultation fees.  We don’t do this all the time.  If you’re watching for specials, you’ll find that this is really the one time a year that we reduce our fees – and only really because we want to give something back to the military community that gives us so much.  It’s a great time to get a consultation, to sit down and have a one on one conversation with a Virginia divorce attorney about your options and choices.  It’s helpful to talk about your case specifically and come up with a custom tailored plan for how to move forward.  No two divorces are exactly the same, of course, and we want to make sure we come up with a plan that takes all of your unique issues and concerns into account.  That’s more than we can accomplish in the seminar (obviously, because we’d be there for a week if we tried to do that for every seminar attendee), and it’s so incredibly valuable.  You’ll get legal advice for your situation, and a lot of clarity about your options.  Normally, our consultations are $285, but for one day (and one day ONLY), we’ll reduce the fee to $150.

If you want to take advantage of this offer, you’ll want to call early for the best selections based on time and location.  We only have a certain number of hours in the day, so make sure you call!  For more information, or to go ahead and schedule a consultation, give our office a call at (757) 425-5200.
