Sheera Herrell Taking Over as Managing Attorney and CEO of Hofheimer Family Law

We’re both excited and incredibly sad to announce that big things are under way at Hofheimer Family Law. If you know us, you know that for the last 25 years (yes, 25!) we’ve been dedicated to representing women only in divorce, custody, and support cases in Virginia. It all started in the 1990s when our founder, Charlie Hofheimer, started the firm. He was soon joined by Jack Ferrebee, and then, just a few years later, by his daughter, Kristen Hofheimer, and Sheera Herrell.
A number of years later, I joined the firm, and was quickly followed by Caitlin Walters. About a year ago, Sarah Haight joined our number, and we became the firm you know today.
About two years ago, Kristen battled breast cancer. She went through chemo, and barely limited the cases she took on. She fought difficult battles in and out of court, and, at her last scans, her cancer was gone. We thought we were out of the woods, and we were so happy.
A few months ago, though, we found out that Kristen’s cancer was back. It’s stage 4, and she decided to retire from the practice of law to focus on spending time with her family—and especially her son, Shay, who is recently married.
It was only natural for Kristen to turn to Sheera when she made the decision to retire; after all, Sheera and Kristen took the bar exam only a few seats from each other (although they didn’t know each other at the time), and have practiced together for many years, forging a strong friendship and an intense level of professional respect.
Sheera is taking over for Hofheimer Family Law as both our managing attorney and CEO, a change that both breaks our hearts and inspires us with so much confidence for and hope in the future. We never truly imagined a future for the firm without Kristen, but if anyone can move the firm forward it’s definitely Sheera Herrell.
A Certified Financial Planner, a collaboratively trained attorney, a regularly selected SuperLawyer, an impressive trial attorney, and all around awesome person, Sheera Herrell is definitely ideally situated to move the firm forward. We (and she) are as committed as ever to representing women only in divorce, custody, and support cases, and we’re looking forward to the future.
Sheera is a capable, smart, savvy attorney, and the rest of us feel privileged to practice with her. As far as our practice is concerned, very little will be changing. Our commitment to representing Virginia women in divorce and custody cases remains as strong as ever—maybe, perhaps, even stronger.
If you’re facing a divorce, custody, or support case in Virginia, give us a look, and you’ll see nothing has changed. We’re as committed as ever to offering education to Virginia women, through our awesome divorce and custody seminar programs in both Virginia Beach and Newport News, even going so far as to help teach women how to represent themselves if they choose to do so, in uncontested divorce and custody and visitation cases at the juvenile court level. We will also continue to sponsor our incredibly popular Girl’s Night Out event series for current, former, and prospective clients and friends.

Kristen’s divorce support group, too, will continue to be offered (though now I’ll be leading it) for our current clients; for more information on registration for our divorce support group, click here.
As always, we’re also offering free copies of our books to Virginia women. We’ve published a number of titles, including “What Every Virginia Woman Should Know About Divorce,” “What Every Virginia Military Wife Needs to Know About Divorce,” “The Woman’s Custody Survival Guide,” and “The Women’s Guide to Selecting an Outstanding Divorce and Custody Lawyer.”  Click on any of the titles to request your free copy now.
We’re taking on new cases and taking appointments in our Virginia Beach, Newport News, and Chesapeake offices, too. For more information, to schedule an appointment, to register to attend a seminar, or to learn more about what your next steps should be, give our office a call at (757) 425-5200. Kristen is retiring, but you’ll be in capable, dedicated hands with Sheera, Caitlin, Sarah, or me.
Some things are changing, but even more is staying the same. We look forward to working with you.
