When you’re knee-deep in a pile of dirty laundry or your household is suffering through its second bout of a cold this month – it can seem hard, or even impossible, to see the good in a situation. However, doing so can have positive benefits on your home, lifestyle and even health. Here’s how to get started.

Every time you find yourself grumbling about the long line at the store or your co-worker’s laziness, stop and think of 4 or 5 things related to the issue for which you are thankful or grateful. The more you remind yourself of positive things, the easier it will be to change your attitude.

Stop comparing yourself to other people. If you only focus on people around you who have more, you’ll miss out on what you actually do have. Turning your focus inward will allow you to see your life more clearly.

Keep a gratitude journal in which you write down things that you are grateful for each day. It can something as simple as a good meal or something more meaningful, like your relationship with your kids. Taking time to recognize the great things in your life will encourage you to appreciate them more.

By actively turning your attention and thoughts to positive things in your life, you can make a permanent optimistic change in your outlook that can benefit you and your family for the rest of your life.
