What kinds of free divorce and custody information can I get?

Posted on Apr 24, 2019 by Katie Carter

While there are very, very few (if any) attorneys who’ll actually take on an entire divorce or custody case pro bono, there’s tons of free divorce and custody information out there. After all, having the right information is critical, because it will help ensure that you make the best decisions for yourself (and your children) possible.

Where should I get started, if I want to get as much information as possible?

You’re in the right place!

To start with, we have four free books on a pretty wide variety of topics. You can request any of them by clicking the link associated with each title.

What Every Virginia Woman Needs to Know About Divorce : It’s our seminal title, and it’s chock full of tons of information you’ll need to know if you (or someone you love) is headed towards a divorce. It’s Virginia-specific, and also specific for women, written by our licensed and experienced Virginia divorce attorneys. (With a few edits in our newest version by yours truly!)

You’ll learn all about the process of divorce and what to expect, including what tips and tricks you should be aware of to stay ahead of the game.

What Every Virginia Military Wife Should Know About Divorce : It’s our military book, designed to do the same thing for active duty (female) military service members and military wives that our regular divorce book does for civilians.

There’s a heavy emphasis on military-specific assets and terminology, including the military pension, the thrift savings plan (TSP), basic allowance for housing (BAH), survivor benefit pension (SBP), TriCare, and more.

The Woman’s Custody Survival Guide: Need to know about custody and visitation, and specifically about special issues (like homeschooling, breastfeeding, special needs children, etc) related to custody and visitation? The Woman’s Custody Survival Guide is your best bet. It’s chock full of information, including a detailed analysis of the ten all-important “best interests of the child” factors.

The Women’s Guide to Selecting an Outstanding Divorce and Custody Lawyer : Our fourth title is designed to help Virginia women wade through the options – whether to hire an attorney, go through alternative dispute resolution, or do it yourself. It explains how to choose the best attorney from among a confusing web of options, and even provides what questions would be worth asking in an initial consultation.
