With over a decade (!!!) of experience under her belt, Caitlin Walters is a formidable attorney dedicated to representing women exclusively in family law.
There are a lot of family lawyers out there, and it can be hard to decide who to hire. Obviously, you want someone good – able to take your case to court, if necessary, but not so inflammatory that she’ll keep your case from getting satisfactorily settled. Someone who knows and understands your goals as a mom, and can help you work backwards to get to where you want (and your kids need) to be. Someone who can negotiate effectively, and to help make sure you get the best end result possible – and help ensure that you don’t wind up in court again and again after your case is finalized.
You also want someone that you can talk to. That’s not usually something people list in the qualities they’re looking for in an attorney, but it’s an important one not to overlook. Keep in mind that, when you sit down with your attorney, you’ll discuss all sorts of important (and also intimate) topics: the health of your marriage, your parenting, your sex life, your finances, and even more.
Should I schedule a consultation with Caitlin Walters?
If you’re ready to schedule a consultation, Caitlin’s a great choice. Not only is she kind, empathetic, and easy to talk to, she’s a roll-with-the-punches attorney who is as good in the courtroom as she is negotiating.
Though she no longer takes cases as a Guardian ad litem, she has worked as one previously – and she’s kept up her qualifications. This definitely gives her an edge in custody cases, which she particularly enjoys anyway. She’s handled a lot of complicated custody litigation, from narcissistic dads to reunification, parental alienation, relocation, addiction, modifications, and more.
She’s also adept at handling divorce cases, from separation agreements to litigating contested cases. She’s handled a number of complex cases, with issues related to spousal support, QDROs, property division, business valuation/division, military divorce, and more.
Professionally, she’s definitely the total package. But personally? Well, personally, I think you’ll like her, too.
You can check out Caitlin’s official bio here, but suffice it to say that we’re all pretty big fans of her. She’s got a kind of fairy tale story too – married her high school sweetheart (okay, fair enough, that part’s kind of cheesy), went to law school, and got the best job ever. After struggling to get pregnant, Caitlin and Lance turned to embryo adoption. When that didn’t work, they tried IVF – and ended up conceiving their miracle baby. Still not finished, they turned to adoption for their second, completing their family. In fact, as of February 2023, she was just back from her second maternity leave.
Caitlin is very active in her church, First Baptist of Norfolk, often leading worship with her husband, Lance (which they have done together since high school). They run an adult life group out of their house each week, too.
Caitlin is clever, easy to talk to, funny (maybe a touch sarcastic), and an all around great attorney and person.
Can I get a sense of Caitlin myself before I meet her?
Absolutely! We teach our monthly divorce seminars live, on a rotating basis, each month. This month – April 2023 – she’s teaching the Third Thursday lunchtime seminar at noon. Coincidentally, it’s also Caitlin’s birthday, so feel free to send her a message telling her happy birthday.
She’ll speak, live, and answer questions on the air. It’s a great way to get a sense of her without scheduling a consultation right off the bat – but I am confident you’ll love her.
You can also check our events calendar to see whether there’s a Girl’s Night Out event coming up in the near future; if so, she’s likely to be there.
Okay, I’m convinced – I want to meet with Caitlin!
You won’t regret it – Caitlin is fabulous. You can schedule a consultation online, just select Caitlin on the menu, and choose a location (she goes to Virginia Beach and Chesapeake) – we’ll get you all set up in a jiffy.
Not sure what to expect? That’s pretty common! You can learn more about our initial consultations and what happens in that hour-ish long appointment here. You can learn even more about Caitlin by checking out her bio, or reading our custody book, which she co-wrote.
It’s normal to feel overwhelmed by all the different options for family law attorneys, and it can be difficult to tell the good from the not-so-good. Or the fine-but-we-have-nothing-in-common-and-its-hard-to-talk-about-hard-things attorneys. In a perfect world, you’d be comfortable enough with your attorney to discuss options, advantages, disadvantages, consequences, finances, and everything else openly, honestly, and with candor.
